Tretinoin

Pharmacogenomic Information in the Context of the FDA-Approved Drug Label*

Tretinoin is a derivative of vitamin A (retinol) used for the treatment of skin conditions and acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL). APL is characterized by the translocation t(15;17) and PML/RAR alpha (RARA) fusion protein.

The FDA recommends, but does not require, genetic testing prior to initiating or reinitiating treatment with Tretinoin (Vesanoid).

The latest approved Tretinoin (Vesanoid) drug label (approved 07/01/2008) is not available on the FDA website. The 2004 label, which is available, does not list PML/RARA.
